Such boards are formally designated to approve (or reject), monitor, and review biomedical and behavioral research involving humans. They often conduct some form of risk-benefit analysis in an attempt to determine whether or not research should be completed. The purpose of the IRB is to assure that appropriate steps are taken to protect the rights and welfare of humans participating as subjects in a research study.                                  CHARTERING RESOLUTION

It is hereby RESOLVED by the Trustees of the Institute that an Institutional Review Board is hereby established under the auspices of the Institute, governed by the Guidelines and Rules adopted by the Trustees and posted (as amended from time to time) at the InHeRe.org.  The Board shall be known as the Institute for Health Research Institutional Review Board (IHR-IRB).  Robert Goodman, PhD (Biochemistry) is hereby appointed first Chairperson of the Board until further decision of the Trustees, authorized to appoint and remove members of the Board and to operate the Board in accordance with the aforesaid Guidelines and Rules. Funds related to the Board shall be transacted through the Institute checking account, under the direction of the President of the Institute.
